National Wildlife Day

September 4th is National Wildlife Day!

This is the perfect day to let your community know that your shelter does more than just help cats and dogs—shelters protect wild animals in the community too.

Whether your shelter has a wildlife officer or simply cares about all animals, National Wildlife Day is a good time to share a few educational tips. If your shelter has a blog, post an entry about best steps for if a resident finds a baby animal that appears to be alone. Consider holding a workshop for community members interested in learning about the wildlife native to your area and how to coexist peacefully with them. For workshop ideas, read on!

Action Steps:

  • Host a wildlife workshop at your shelter (suggested workshop outline below)
  • Create a flyer to advertise the workshop and post it around the community
  • Create a sharegraphic promoting the workshop to share on social media (sample below)
  • Post your best tips from your workshop about peacefully existing with wildlife on social media
